Design & Designers
My father taught graphic design as a trade, not an art. I agree, and believe this extends to fashion, product and packaging design. How does the designer want the audience to see the world, and by extension, the product or brand? As an empty vessel into which to pour one’s own vision? As a place of strict boundaries defining the ideal experience? Or as a magical domain, fusing the spiritual with the practical? Interviewing designers about the moments and interactions that mold their viewpoints is one of my favorite pastimes, and fortunately, defines my practice.
